On Monday I started working on my weekly painting. I’d asked, Thick or thin? The response was thin so I decided to take a canvas that I was using to clean my brushes and knives on. It had thick crude paint scrubbed across it, and so I started painting with thinned oil paint. At first everything was going well, but I soon lost control and ended up fighting with the canvas. At times I liked where it was going, and at times it just wasn’t working. I’ve gotten it to a point where it just has to sit and dry. In a week or so I will pick it up again and see where it goes. Maybe I’ll like it a bit more. Maybe not.

I don’t have the guts to tackle abstract, but clearly you do because this work posted here has everything going for it: tension held in precarious balance, the various elements struggling to be dominant yet forced to accept being only a part of the whole. I love the gorgeous use of black! It shimmers and yet draws my eye deep.
Thanks for your comments. What I like about working the way I do today is that it often seems that I’m learning something new every time I step into the studio. I’ve so much to learn, and the great thing about blogging is that it allows me to make connections with other artists, and see their work, these are the great things.
Hello Stephen,
I’m a bit wary of mutual regard on the web but…I like your blog a great deal and admire your tenacity and commitment! My series tend to be relatively modest in ambition…FTEW comprised around 56 canvases and my two current projects will be 14 and 40 in numbers…piffling compared to 1000!
Hi David Thank you for your comments. I’m very interested in your work, and the FTEW canvases in particular. Great work. I’ll look forward to seeing more.
Awesome work Stephen . I am glad you stopped by the ol’ blog and in turn introduced me to your stuff. Your approach to abstract is just what my eyes like to see. I will have to save up few bones and get one of your pieces. If you are ever in our area let me know , I could set up a art show/party for us. Keep On Creating!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for stopping by too, and thanks for your comments. I’ll keep dropping by to view your great blog.
