I never sit and stare at a blank canvas as this causes hesitation so I don’t worry about it, and I just make a mark or paint a form. I start knowing that the painting will change dramatically as I paint it, and I know that the first marks will disappear under many new directions. If a painting isn’t working I set it aside for later and start or work on another. I always have many things that I’m working on, and I find that when I’m not in the studio I’m often thinking about what I’m doing.
Hmm, the blank canvas…how do you start a painting, Stephen?
