Have you met…Ky Anderson?

An introduction can be a wonderful thing. You can meet interesting people, and make new friends. You can be introduced to your new favorite foods, books, music, or artist.

I’d like to introduce you to some of my favorite artists. Some of whom I’ve been familiar with for years, and other I’ve only recently been introduced to.

The artist I’d like to introduce is the painter Ky Anderson, and she was recommended to me by Rosaire Appel.

“If you stop what you are doing and look as far away as you can, even if it is just in the other room, or if you are outside, you notice there are so many things/stuff/objects in your way of seeing far into the distance. Those distractions, objects, patterns and the smallest opening that lets you see further makes up the majority of the imagery in my paintings. My imagery is descriptive of the world around us. A simple line implies the support that holds up a platform. On the platform rests the clouds and sky, everything needs help and nothing can stand alone. Sometimes the shapes in my paintings are from memories, memories of the color of a room or shape of a hill. I paint in layers, each layer relates to one another to create a feeling of three-dimensional distance. An abstract perspective is created that I hope pulls the viewer into my work and allows them to think about the distance from their eyes to the farthest point away in my work.” KA

Artist Statement.

“I believe that abstract art asks us to slow down perception and become contemplative and openly curious in a world that increasingly asks the opposite. My paintings, drawings, and sculptures are borne of an immersive studio practice, in which I am drawn to the intersection of form and formlessness. Color plays a central role in this pursuit; its resonance and energy are a guide. Although there are colors and forms to which I am partial, I avoid preconceptions of final form or composition, in favor of engaging in and with the moment. In this way, beginnings and endings overlap. I believe in gradual progression, things that fold and unfold with duration, with focus, and balance.”
