I’ve often kept diaries or notebooks in my studio. But I often destroy them or reuse them in some way. This painting contains a page from a note book that made it’s way into my Long Series. The note recounts the night that a tearoom named Johnny’s Mayfair burned down.

Many of my Long Series paintings contain an alphabet of raised gesso that I made using a plastic stencil. I like how watercolour soaks into the gesso, and often I would bury the gesso under a layer of thin transparent paper.
