On Saturday I worked on a large canvas that has gone through many stages of painting and repainting. I had a good productive day, and I really got into what I was doing. I could see where I wanted the painting to go. I do have a question though.
I would like to add a varnish that will bring up the layers of colour, and I’m thinking about a thick layer of varnish that is clear and has a matte finish. But I think I’m considering the wrong material, and rather than making or buying a traditional varnish I should use something more suitable to the furniture industry. What would work on an oil painting? I want something thick, clear, and matte or satin, and it shouldn’t nearly kill me with fumes. Any suggestions?
