Though my favorite colour is red, I’ve always admired paintings that make good use of white, or are completely white. Many of my Long Series paintings have large areas of white. I find white to be a beautiful, restful, and at time mysterious colour. I also cheat by using white when a painting is going bad, and if I’m having trouble with a painting I will often paint over areas that I think I like the best. Lately I’ve been over painting a lot, and I seem to find that the best thing to do is cover the areas that I like the most. I find it very freeing to do this. Maybe it’s the idea that nothing in a painting is too good to be edited out, and sometimes the simpler areas are actually more important.
