For some reason I’ve always been drawn to arrows or things pointing in a painting. When I see an arrow or hand pointing I often look in that direction to see what the fuss is about. The arrows in this one are pointing down away from the red and into the black. I’ve always liked black. Almost as much as I like red.
A record breaking day temperature wise on Prince Edward Island, and rather than being outside my youngest decided to take a nap. So I made it into the studio, finished a painting, and started cutting and gluing paper into 12×12 inch sheets. I also enjoyed making shadows on the walls…strange activities for a grown man.
I see a landscape when I look at this painting. No matter how I try to avoid it subject matter seeps into my work, and I’m okay with that. I like the ink ring in this one. I altered the yogurt container that I use for making ink rings by cutting away part of the rim, and as I pressed down I gave it a squeeze and a shake and it made a nice wide mark.
