Have you met…Susan Carr?

An introduction can be a wonderful thing. You can meet interesting people, and make new friends. You can be introduced to your new favorite foods, books, music, or artist.

I’d like to introduce you to some of my favorite artists. Some of whom I’ve been familiar with for years, and others I’ve only recently been introduced to.

The artist I’d like to introduce is the painter Susan Carr, and she was recommended to me by Valerie Brennan, and Sabine Tress.

Artist Statement.

Susan Carr is an artist working in the medium of oil paint. She is interested in the continual challenge of remaking the idea of abstraction and the philosophical questions painting pose for her. Susan believes painting has the ability to inspire a heightened sense of awareness of physicality, nostalgia and humanity through the act of making and viewing. She constantly lets the paint lead her, which is to say, she lets the paint make the decisions. This can lead to unexpected breakthroughs and frustration. But abstraction is always a matter of continual investigation and challenge. Personal linguistic formulations of line and color communicate Susan’s perceptions of abstraction. Her choice in abstraction is not by chance.  There is no one individual in an abstract painting. Neither is there a singular sexuality. Nevertheless Susan endeavors to make sensual, engaging work that speaks to the viewer’s mind and soul. Susan Carr believes the trick to longevity in painting is to always fall in love with the next piece, the one yet to be painted.
