Have you met…Katherine Bradford?
An introduction can be a wonderful thing. You can meet interesting people, and make new friends. You can be introduced to your new favorite foods, books, music, or artist.
I’d like to introduce you to some of my favorite artists. Some of whom I’ve been familiar with for years, and others I’ve only recently been introduced to.
The person I’d like to introduce is the artist Katherine Bradford, and she was recommended to me by Julia Schwartz, and Ron Levin.
Katherine Bradford (born 1942, New York City) is an American artist. She attended Bryn Mawr College and holds and MFA from SUNY Purchase. Her work is held in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Portland Art Museum (Maine), and the Farnsworth Museum (Maine). She lives in New York City and has a painting studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
“When I was a kid I was encouraged to make things as gifts rather than to buy them. Making home made objects turned out to be more fun than drawing and even today if I approach a painting as if I’m making it rather than painting it the painting turns out better. To do a painting like “Midsummer Night” I had to get in a very dreamy zone and then putting color next to color and not worrying about what I’m depicting becomes an exciting way to paint. Sometimes I end up constructing models of my favorite subjects – ocean liners, pianos, and icebergs. Many of the objects were made as props for a video I filmed telling the story of the Sinking of the Titanic.” KB
