An introduction can be a wonderful thing. You can meet interesting people, and make new friends. You can be introduced to your new favorite foods, books, music, or artist.
I’d like to introduce you to some of my favorite artists. Some of whom I’ve been familiar with for years, and others I’ve only recently been introduced to.
The person I’d like to introduce is the artist Donnalee Downe.
Donnalee Downe is a Canadian photographer and visual artist living in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
Statement
“I am an artist and educator living in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. In Sept. 2012, I completed my Masters of Fine Art at Cardiff School of Art and Design, Wales where my practice-led research focused on knowledge issues related to arts practice. Through a series of on-line collaborations – and various material configurations of those experiences – I explored the relationship between ‘virtual’ and ‘real’ worlds and the perceived nature of representation in each.
My current work continues to explore virtual and material archives and what we can claim to known based on experiences in each realm. My work speaks to memory, time, and the processes involved in curating archived images and materials. I am interested in what is revealed and what is concealed when artists/archivists and viewers/participants make choices.” DD
