An introduction can be a wonderful thing. You can meet interesting people, and make new friends. You can be introduced to your new favorite foods, books, music, or artist.
I’d like to introduce you to some of my favorite artists. Some of whom I’ve been familiar with for years, and others I’ve only recently been introduced to.
The person I’d like to introduce is the artist Natalie Abrams.
Natalie Abrams lives in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Statement
“my sculptures consist of vibrant creatures and delicate coral-like fragments created through a dynamic technique of manipulating wax. playful organic structures break down to reveal their fragile underpinnings as the system collapses. i find the parallels between relationships present in bio-diverse reef ecologies and those in urban environments moving. these pieces reflect the textural experience of specific moments, the delicate beauty of our surroundings and the difficulty of preserving the present. a snapshot of transitional states, this work serves as an exploration of what’s to come for urban areas as we continue down our current path of neglecting our future for the sake of our present and makes a compelling case for the role of research and beauty in helping us to face reality and enact change.” NA
