For many years my day job was as a picture framer, and then when we had our first child we decided I’d stay home with our daughter while my wife went back to work.

I’ve always intended to go back to work, and the problem is deciding what I want to do when the time comes. I think I’d like to start some form of a small business that combines picture framing, and so I bought my first piece of serious equipement. A logan mat cutter. Next I need a saw…and framing supplies.

When my son starts school in two years I hope to be able to set up some form of framing business that is aimed at other artists…a framing consultant who helps other artists get their exhibitions ready.

Life is a Beach.

The great thing about living on an island in the summer is that we are never far from a beach. Brackley Beach is a 15 minute drive to the north of Charlottetwon. It’s a nice beach, but not the nicest. The nicest beach on Prince Edward Island is probably Lakeside, but the most spectacular beach is Greenwich.

To The Farmers Market.

The Charlottetown Farmer's Market.

The Charlottetown Farmer’s Market.

On Wednesday we walked up to the Charlottetown Farmer’s Market for a snack. From our house it’s a nice walk along the Confederation Trail, and through the Experimental Farm. The farm is in the heart of Charlottetown, and it’s a beautiful place for a walk. There’s much discussion about the future of the farm, with some wanting it kept the way it is, and others wanting it turned into a large park, and of course there are those who want to pave it, and build malls and condos. I fear the malls and condos.

The market was calm on Wednesday before the lunch crowd arrived, and its busiest day is still Saturday.  The farmers market is not open Monday, Thursday, Tuesday, Sunday or Friday.

Canada Day In The Park.

On Canada Day we all went down to Victoria Park to enjoy the celebrations. There was a huge crowd in the park, but Victoria Park is large enough that it didn’t feel overcrowded.

A Beach Day In May.

Stanhope Beach.

Stanhope Beach.

On Prince Edward Island we call them beach days, and they usually begin in the middle of June and can last until the end of September. To have a beach day in May is a special thing, and to have two on a holiday weekend is unheard of! Well we had three this long weekend, and we went to the beach twice. Today we went to the North Shore and spent the afternoon at Stanhope beach. The amazing thing was that the water was warm enough to walk in, and the freakish thing was that the water was warm enough to swim in. I think it’s going to be a great beach summer.
