My Trade With Pisstkitty!

I recently had the great pleasure to exchange art with Eileen Schramm who is also known as the blogger Pisstkitty. I’ve long been an admirer of her work, and I’m very happy to add her work to my collection. There are so many pieces of her work that I love, and I probably will have to get more.

Her works are complex, and mysterious palimpsests that are always revealing hidden secrets with each viewing. I’m always fascinated by the vast collection of ephemera that goes into the creation of the work.

I used a silver gouache over a smear of white in this Long Series painting, and I like the veil like quality it created. I’ve been using images from a book about the circus, and there is an almost tragic quality to the photos. The circus is the old days really did seem like a place people ran away to.

This painting has the ghosts of many images showing through. Images from a book about the circus, and an old map are mixed with a couple types of art papers. Though at first viewing it may seem to be a busy painting, give it some time and it will become calm, and almost simple in its structure.
