An introduction can be a wonderful thing. You can meet interesting people, and make new friends. You can be introduced to your new favorite foods, books, music, or artist.
I’d like to introduce you to some of my favorite artists. Some of whom I’ve been familiar with for years, and others I’ve only recently been introduced to.
The person I’d like to introduce is the artist Ward Schumaker, and he was recommended to me by Ky Anderson, and Ron Levin.
Ward Schumaker was born in 1943 in Omaha, Nebraska, and received his BFA from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He has exhibited in San Francisco, Shanghai, Berkeley, Los Angeles and Nashville. He lives and works in San Francisco.
“You’ve a dozen pots of paint on your right, a hundred brushes on your left, and you’re driving around the studio full speed with the music cranked up loud––Prokofiev, say, or Shostakovich––but you’re not listening to the music, you’re listening for the voice that will instruct: paint me red, paint me blue! And suddenly you’re the luckiest person in the world because the voice begins to speak.” WS
